The Magic Happens When
The magic happens once I turn on the camera and start clicking away during your session. If you don't know how to pose, or how to look glamorous for your session, don't worry I got you. I give you and your family poses and prompts so that you look fantastic for your session. You won't have to worry about how to stand or what to do with your hands or arms. I guide you through your session in order to make it as comfortable and not awkward as possible.
Here are 5 things I will do during your session to make your family comfortable with me.
- Get down at eye level with the kids.
Kids like to move fast and are probably unsure of talking to a complete stranger (me while photographing). But I like to get down to eye level to them, and see the world as they see it. Whether they are amused with a bug, watching the waves of the ocean during sunset, or searching for a honu (turtle), I'll try to see what they see and take their cues. And eventually, they will smile for the camera, and they will be in their element where I'll be able to capture them. - Ask the male what he's comfortable doing during the session.
Yes, I do love it when your guy will lift you up in the water, or will dip you and kiss you madly, but sometimes, guys just aren't comfortable with being photographed. So I'll ask the male what he's comfortable doing, and watch his cues. Sometimes, if he hesitates on a question or a prompt, I'll know it means discomfort, so I'll move along. It's my job to make sure everyone is comfortable and calm during the session. Not only am I able to capture genuine moments and smiles, but also capture the emotions during the session, so when you look back, you'll remember how you FEEL, not how I posed you. - Tell you to remove your watches, hair ties, keys and miscellaneous items during the session
I carry a bag with me, so you can put your valuables in the bag, but still have them with you at the beach. It's a hassle for me to edit out hair ties, or phones in pockets, so I just get all those things away from your hands from the beginning. And every once in a while, I'll forget to give you back something, but don't worry, I always turn around and find you! - Walk at a pace that is right for your family, no matter how young or old!
Kids like to run or twirl or dance, or just walk slowly. So I make sure to follow that pace. I don't want you to rush or run, unless you want to run. I'll follow your pace so I can capture your moments from behind the lens and get all 360 degrees of you! - Linger on a pose or prompt or background if everyone seems happy
Of course if something is going really well, I'll stay in that position longer, because the real emotions come out when you're happy. So if something is super fun for the kids, or makes you really happy, I'll keep at it. Silly questions? Twirling? Holding hands? Dancing? Screaming? Yes, I'll let you do it all!
