Catching the Sun
One of the best things I love doing during one of my sessions is definitely catching the sun between and around a couple. It could be just Mom and Dad in the group, or Grandma and Grandpa who are celebrating, or an adorable couple. I of course give you a gentle prompt, so you can hold that post for me. I also give you a little joke before you go into position so you can have a cute and true smile on your face. The kind of smile where there's wrinkles around your eyes and a twinkle in your eyes.
People often ask me if shots like that just happen by chance — and the truth is, they don’t. Getting that perfect burst of sunlight framed between two people during a sunset photography session on Maui takes experience, good timing, and a creative eye. I’m always scanning the light, reading the setting, and watching for the right moment. Then I’ll guide you gently into place and give you a little joke or silly line — just enough to bring out that real smile. The kind of smile that shows up in your eyes, not just your mouth.
